Hungarian President Katalin Novak Resigns Amid Outcry Over Controversial Pardon in Child Abuse Case

The President of Hungary, Katalin Novak, announced her resignation on Saturday after facing increasing pressure over granting pardon to a man who helped conceal a case of sexual abuse in a children's home, according to Reuters.

"I made a mistake... Today is the last day I address you as President," Novak said in a speech broadcast on state television.

"I granted a pardon, which caused confusion and unrest among many people. I was wrong," she stated in a television address on Saturday, announcing her ceremonial resignation from the position of head of state.
